Sue Ja Joo.JPG

A novelist, poet, and playwright, Sue Ja Joo (주수자) was born in Seoul, Korea. She emigrated in 1976, living abroad for 23 years in France, Switzerland, and the United States. She returned to Korea in 1998.

Holding a B.A. in Fine Arts (Seoul National University), and an M.A. degree from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, Sue's literary inspiration comes from her deep roots in aesthetics, religion, and global cultures. In 2013, she became the first recipient of the Insung Park Mini-Fiction Literary Award, which recognizes her achievements in popularizing this genre in Korea.

She is at the frontier of a new literary genre, 'Smart Fiction' which hybridizes poetry and short fiction.

Sue Ja Joo has published a wide variety of works in Korea, from novels to poetry and plays to essays. Her books include "Snowstorm in Buffalo", "A Red Chair" and "The Garden of Fog." Poetry collections include "Riding on a Butterfly's Back" and "The Landscape Through Translucent Glass".

A number of her plays have been produced on stage in the theater in Seoul, such as "Raindrop Fantasia", "The Clone 1001", and "Zero, Zero, Zero, Zero".

Other notable works are "Borges Invenciones" and "Aha! and Eh? - a Conversation Between Science and Literature." "Night Picture of Rain Sound" is her first book translated into English.

Sue is currently working as the editor-in-chief of a literary magazine based in Seoul. She currently lives in Korea.

ABOUT

Type Writer

Page Addie Press was created in 2006 by Poet Susan Blanshard, and Author Bruce Blanshard. Page Addie Press is an independent literary press with a passion for publishing contemporary poetry, poetic prose, literary fiction, and non-fiction.
Page Addie champions new authors, diverse cultures and works of literary merit.

In 2025 Page Addie Press is placing emphasis on bringing literature in translation to the English language market.

As a British based book publisher, Page Addie Press is committed to developing a personal relationship with their authors. We don't see Authors as just another number on a page, but rather as people. Page Addie’s author-centric publishing approach bridges a much-needed gap in the publishing landscape. We work with

authors, across geographies, languages and creative disciplines.

Translation is not a matter of words only: it is a matter of making intelligible a whole culture.

Page Addie Press publishes books that matter, in ways that matter. We offer custom publishing with high-production values, and take pride in publishing perfect-bound paperbacks, limited edition cloth-bound, hard-cover quality books —one beautiful book at a time.

Each book has an ISBN UK registration.

On publication, copies are sent to the British National Library for legal deposit. In this way, every book

published by Page Addie Press becomes part of the largest national library in the world. Beyond that, books reach international readers through our

partnerships with global

distributors.
